Bard in the Valley Summer Theatre
Bard in the Valley hosts an exciting season of outdoor theatre each year in Langley. Featuring Shakespearean-themed shows, original productions, youth performances and special theatre events, the festival offers live entertainment at both Township 7 Winery and Douglas Park Spirit Square.
In 2026 the performances ran from June 25th to July 26th with both free and ticketed shows. This past year there was both Henry IV and Persephone. Comparable shows will likely take place around the same time in 2027, although exact details are to be confirmed.

Bard in the Valley Shakespearean-Themed Theatre in Langley
Founded in 2009, Bard in the Valley is a charitable theatre company based in the Fraser Valley. Every summer it presents classic Shakespeare productions alongside original new works and youth theatre performances, all while supporting local actors, directors and theatre artists.
Over the years, the company has entertained more than 25,000 audience members and has become one of Langley’s best annual summer arts events. Thanks to ticket sales from paid performances, Bard in the Valley is also able to offer a number of free or by-donation shows in Douglas Park, making live theatre accessible to the entire community.
In addition to its annual productions, the organization operates youth theatre camps and educational programs that help introduce young performers to the world of theatre.

Tickets and Admission
Performances at Township 7 Winery in 2026 cost $35 per person while productions at Douglas Park Spirit Square were free or by donation.
For the paid shows each year, purchasing tickets online before arriving is highly recommended. Limited availability may exist at the venue. Guests without advance tickets may need to scan a QR code on-site to check for remaining seats.
2026 Performance Schedule
The 2026 season included a mix of ticketed productions at Township 7 Winery and free performances in Douglas Park. Plays included Henry IV and Persephone (the latter of which was a musical).
Henry IV
The 2026 season’s main production was Henry IV. It was a locally-produced adaptation that combined Shakespeare’s Henry IV, Part 1 and Henry IV, Part 2 into one action-packed performance.
Set in medieval England around the year 1400, the story followed King Henry IV as he struggled with rebellion across the kingdom while his son, Prince Hal, spent his time with the unforgettable Sir John Falstaff instead of preparing for the throne. Filled with comedy, drama, political intrigue and memorable characters, the production explored friendship, family and leadership.

Bard & Banter Pre-Show Discussion
Audience members who attended select winery performances in 2026 were also able to enjoy Bard & Banter, an informal discussion before the show began.
When it happens, the event features the director, producer and members of the creative team explaining the production, its design and the story behind the performance.
In 2026 Bard & Banter took place from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm on June 25th and July 3rd at Township 7 Winery. Admission was free, although guests had to have tickets for that evening’s performance of Henry IV.
Spontaneous Shakespeare
For something completely different, Bard in the Valley also presented Spontaneous Shakespeare in 2026.
Rather than performing a traditional script, the cast created an entirely original Shakespeare-inspired comedy with the help of audience suggestions. Every performance was unique, which made it popular with returning visitors.
In 2026 the show took place on Thursday, July 2nd from 7:00 pm until approximately 9:30 pm at Township 7 Winery. This show required tickets in advance and it cost around $35.
Persephone
The festival also showcases original local productions. The 2026 season included Persephone, which was a brand-new musical written and directed by Langley’s own Lauren Trotzuk.
Inspired by Greek mythology, the story followed Persephone as she journeyed through the Underworld while discovering her own strength and purpose. Along the way, audiences encountered Hades, Demeter and Zeus in an entertaining musical adventure.
Performances in 2026 ran from July 21st to July 23rd at Douglas Park Spirit Square in Langley City. Admission was free for this show, although advanced reservations were encouraged.

Something Rotten! JR.
Young performers took the stage this past season with Something Rotten! JR., a family-friendly adaptation of the Broadway musical.
Set during the Renaissance, the production combined comedy, music and colourful characters into an entertaining performance suitable for audiences of all ages.
In 2026 Something Rotten! JR. shows took place on July 16th and 17th at Douglas Park Spirit Square. Admission for this show was also free or by donation.
Gourmet Picnic Packages
Visitors attending performances at Township 7 Winery were able to make their evening even more memorable by ordering a gourmet picnic from Well Seasoned Gourmet Food Company.
Picnic options included artisan sandwiches, fresh salads and cheese and charcuterie boxes, each packaged with compostable cutlery, napkins and homemade carrot cake for dessert. Vegetarian and gluten-free options were also available with advance notice.
Orders had to be placed before 12:00 pm at least 48 hours before the show.
