The Dance Centre in Vancouver
The Dance Centre is a key piece of the Vancouver dance scene. The organization provides live shows, public classes, studio rentals and more.
In this article, “The Dance Centre” refers to both the physical building in downtown Vancouver as well as the group that operates it. There are many events that happen throughout the year at the venue.

Where is the Dance Centre?
The Dance Centre is located at 677 Davie Street. That puts it right next to Granville Street and in a prime spot in Vancouver’s downtown core and entertainment district. The main Vancouver International Film Festival building is just a block away.
The Dance Centre is a short walk from the Yaletown-Roundhouse Skytrain Station, and a slightly longer (but still very manageable) walk from the Granville Skytrain Station. It also isn’t far from the Granville Street Bridge for those who prefer to travel by car and are coming from that direction.

About the Building
While The Dance Centre organization has been around since the 1980s, the building that stands today at Davie and Granville only opened in 2001. Famed Canadian architect Arthur Erickson collaborated with Architectura to create the venue.
The Dance Centre venue is set up to be a hub for artists, especially local ones. The building boasts 32,000 square feet of space, including six dance studios, a blackbox theatre and a boardroom – all of which are available to rent. Renting a dance studio ranges from $32 to $63 per hour (as of the fall of 2026).
Over 85,000 people visit The Dance Centre each year, for a multitude of different reasons. In addition to the professional live performances, there are various public programs designed for people of all ages to enjoy dancing and all of the physical and emotional benefits it provides.
Those who want to learn more about the organization and its building (and maybe event get some free dance tips) can go to The Dance Centre Open House in September. The Open House is a day where everyone is welcome to check out The Dance Centre and learn more about the building and organization behind it. There’s no admission charge to get in, although the 2026 event also features a show put on by Ballet Vancouver which is ticketed.

The Dance Centre Programming
While there are workshops and public programs that run throughout the year, The Dance Centre’s main stage production season runs from around October to May. 2026 marks the organization’s 40th anniversary!
All of the performances take place inside The Dance Centre building at 677 Davie Street. Tickets cost anywhere from about $15 to $40 depending on the show and how old you are. Seniors and those under the age of 30 have discounted admission.
The Dance Centre divides most of its shows into a couple different series. In 2026 there’s once again the Global Dance Connections Series as well as the Discover Dance! Series. There are subscription packages available for tickets to all or some of the shows in each series.
While the art of dancing is obviously the focal point of all the shows put on at The Dance Centre, there is plenty of variety to be found. Some shows feature a solo performer, while others have a full ensemble. Some are very stripped down in terms of the set design, while others embrace multimedia elements and more complex staging. Artists from Metro Vancouver, across Canada and abroad are all able to display their work to a public audience.
