A Vancouver Tradition Since 1990

Founded by Artistic Director Christopher Gaze, Bard on the Beach began in 1990 as a small-scale summer event. It has since grown into one of Canada’s largest not-for-profit Shakespearean festivals. Today, it attracts more than 90,000 visitors each season, with over 1.5 million attendees since its inception.

The festival is powered by a dedicated team of professional actors, skilled production crews, and over 200 volunteers who help create an unforgettable theatre experience.
